SAD # 46 Wellness Page for Parents

[Wellness Home Page] [Tiger Wellness Team Philosophy] [Wellness Theme & Resources] [Local Foods] [Unlocking School Nutrition] [Every 15 Minutes Program]

The Tiger Wellness Team is dedicated to learning about issues related to health promotion, health education and the maintenance of a healthy learning environment and seeks to promote and model healthier eating, engaging in life-long physical activity, and avoiding the use of tobacco products.

For example, there has been much talk in the news about the obesity epidemic in this country, as can be seen from this slideshow put out by the Center for Disease Control.

This page is here to help parents find some of the on-line resources that are available to help in reaching the goals of healthier eating, engaging in life-long physical activity, and avoiding the use of tobacco products.

Here for some resources related to the different components of wellness...

Check out the new Food Pyramid!

The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, an organization of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, was established in 1994 to improve the nutrition and well-being of Americans.

Eat locally grown foods!

The purpose of Maine Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is to bring together Maine nutrition and physical activity organizations that serve schoolchildren with the goal of raising healthy children.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a partnership between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. We have come together to fight one of our nation’s leading health threats – childhood obesity.
