"Healthful diets help children grow, develop, and do well in school. They enable people of all ages to work productively and feel their best."

U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Nutrition and Your Health, 2000

As educators, we see first-hand the effects of poor nutrition on student behavior.  As part of a Master's Degree program a group of educators and myself created a framework for implementing a healthy school nutrition program that prepares students for optimal learning.  Knowing that costs are very important, we provided evidence that providing healthy meals, snacks, and drinks in a school setting could make money for a school, and we showed how some schools are doing just that.  Our hope was and is for every student to have favorable learning conditions; we believe that the link among nutrition, behavior, and learning is critical.
