Tri-County Technical Center Pre-Technical Program
The Pre-Technical Program serves ninth and tenth grade students from the Tri-County Technical Center area. Students are placed based on an advocate recommendation. The advocate may be an educator, parent, or any other person with an interest in the education of the student. A committee will make final placement decisions. The course is designed to be three semesters in length. Students are eligible after the first semester of grade nine. Enrollment and completion dates are left open and flexible to enable adaptation to meet student needs. Students will attend the program on an alternating day schedule similar to other Technical Center Programs. This allows students to remain involved in the academic and social environment of the sending school. The curriculum is based on the Careers Pathway Model developed by Center for Occupational Research and Development (CORD). The three major components of the model are counseling, academic, and community. The model is based on contextual learning. The theme for the Pre-Technical Program is energy production and renewable sources in our communities. Academic, personal and professional development is fully integrated. Early in the program students complete assessments of personal preferences, individual traits and academic status. Several excellent assessments are available. The academic status is assessed with the North West Educational Assessment (NWEA) system. Based on the results academic and personal goals are established and written for the student. The focus of the plan is to motivation in the student for high school education and pursuit of post secondary opportunities.
