CyberBullying Info for Students

That's You!!!

Let's face it.  You do it.  Your friends do it.  Do you also know who else is doing it?

We're talking about going on-line.  MySpace.  AOL Instant Messenger (or Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, you get the idea). Chat rooms.

You know what? You're not alone.  Any info about yourself that you can see from a web page can be seen by anyone all over the world.  That's scary.  Check below for ways to be safe while being on-line.

Become a "Stealth" web-surfer

Remove any info about you that would help someone find out where you live, go to school, or work.  Don't post:

  • Phone numbers and addresses

  • What school activities you do (sports, extra-curricular, etc.)

  • Where you hang out or work

  • Your friends last names (or better yet, don't post their first names either -  use  nicknames) or ages

  • Names of family members or their age (especially yours!)

  • Pictures of yourself with easily identified backgrounds (like at a football game)

  • Pictures of yourself that you wouldn't want to show to your grandmother or grandfather (or uncle, aunt, etc.)

  • Also, do the things suggested here.

  • And here

Do go into the programs/web sites you use (such as MySpace, AIM, etc.) and turn all of the privacy settings on.  If you need help doing this, click here.

If you get in
