High school diploma and GED



What are the GED Tests?
The GED tests are (with the exception of one required essay) multiple choice tests that cover the following 5 areas: writing skills, social studies, science, literature and the arts, and math. You must obtain a passing score in each test in order to obtain a GED. Because the GED tests general knowledge and thinking skills that you may have acquired in other ways during your life, you may need little or no preparation in order to take the tests!


Am I eligible to take the GED?
You are eligible to take the GED tests if you meet the following requirements:
At least 18 years of age
Or 17 and not enrolled in a high school for one year
Exception:seventeen-year-olds with a documented immediate need and permission from the participating school superintendent are eligible to take the GED tests.


How do I prepare for the GED?
The SAD 46 adult education office offers several learning centers that provide a quiet space to study, books, materials and practice GED tests for you to use until you feel confident and ready to take the actual GED tests. In addition, one-on-one tutoring is available to help you brush up on needed skills.


What is the cost of a GED?
All learning center time, GED pretests and the GED tests are free!


When and where do I take the GED tests?
The GED tests are offered every week in room 210 at Dexter Regional High School, but you must be referred by the Adult Ed Director or ABE tutor.


How do I obtain an adult high school diploma?
Ask for your high school transcript by calling or writing to the high school that you attended. The SAD 46 adult education director will review your transcript to determine the number of credits already earned. Together, you and the director design a program to complete graduation requirements. To receive the SAD 46 adult high school diploma, you must have at least 16-20 credits, depending on your birthdate.


What is the cost of a high school diploma?
All high school diploma services are free!


How do I begin?
Call the SAD 46 Adult Education office at 924-7674 to set up an informal meeting so that you and the director can determine your best options. all programs are flexible and designed to meet the needs and interests of our learners. We provide a relaxed, supportive learning environment.
