Diploma Courses

 

Algebra 1Explore the basics of algebra concepts for beginners. This is a 15-week course. Diploma/1 credit

 

English/Literature-This is a survey of English Literature including William Shakespeare, Chaucer, and the Victorian period. This is a 15-week course. Diploma/1 credit.

 

Refresher English-This 15-week course teaches the  techniques of the English Language. Diploma/1 credit.

 

US History-A survey of 20th Century US History from the Spanish American War through the Cold War. This is a 15-week course. Diploma/1 credit.

 

Inland Fisheries & Wildlife

 

ATV/Snowmobile Safety– This 7 1/2-hour course will teach you about the laws and regulations of ATV/Snowmobile use. Topics covered are safety issues associated with riding, first aid, and survival techniques.

 

Bow Hunter Safety This 10-hour course will teach you the laws, safety issues, equipment, and more about hunting with a bow.

 

Miscellaneous Courses

 

GED TestingSAD #46 is a GED testing site. Tests are free and are scheduled each week. Call the Adult & Community Education Office for more details at 924-7674.

 

Learning Center-  Students needing help with reading skills, math

skills, or GED preparation are invited to attend our learning center. New students must contact the Adult Education Office at 924-7674 to schedule an appointment to determine areas of need.

 

MEOC Workshops- Essentials of college planning workshops sponsored by the Maine Educational Opportunity Center are available at the SAD 46 Adult Education Learning Center once a month on Wednesday mornings, 9-12 pm at the American Legion Hall.

 

Computer Courses

 

Computer Repair–The second semester of this course focuses on installing, configuring, and troubleshooting operating systems. Emphasis is placed on Windows XP but Windows 9x/2000 and Linux will also be discussed. This is a 15-week course. Cost is $120.00, plus a $45.00 book fee.

 

Keyboarding– This 8-week course teaches basics of keyboarding using a computer keyboard. Come and learn the basics or improve your skills.

 

Microsoft PowerPoint– A powerful presentation tool for business and office workers. Learn the ins and outs of this Microsoft Program in this 6-week class. Prior computer experience is necessary.

 

Microsoft Word– Learn to use the word processing program in this course that covers the basics for home or business in this 6-week course.  Basic computer/typing skills are required to succeed in this course.

 

Job Skills

 

Certified Nurse Assistant-This 15-week course covers many aspects of the healthcare profession. Class will start  1/17/06. Please call for an appointment at 924-7674. Limit: 10 participants.

 

Enrichment Courses

 

AARP Driver Training-All ages are welcome for this class that will meet in two four-hour sessions. Automobile insurance discounts are available for qualified participants once they have successfully completed the class.

 

Basketball- An up-tempo full court game for adults who want to improve their skills and/or stay in shape. This is not open gym, but evenly divided teams stressing fundamentals on both offense and defense with interchangeable teams to keep even competition. Game situations, keeping score, and shooting foul shots encompass this intense two-hour workout. Limited to 18 people per night.

Financial Literacy-Call For more information 924-7674

 

Introduction to Creative Writing-In this 8-week course students will be exposed to several writing styles and techniques including imagery, critical thinking, journal writing, and brainstorming. Topics to be covered include poetry, first person narratives, short stories, prose, character building, drama, and humor. Weekly student writing assignments will be shared with the group.

 

Introduction to Genealogy– This 4-week class is designed for individuals with little or no prior experience in genealogy or family history.  There will be no work which uses the internet. Genealogical charts, terminology, and resources will be reviewed. 

 

Kitchen Organization and Storage-Are you renting, buying, or building a new home? Are you planning to remodel your current kitchen or do you just want the one you have to be more efficient? If so, then take these classes. The first session will cover work areas in basic efficient kitchen arrangements for those right-handed and left-handed. The second session will access where items are kept with inexpensive ideas for efficient utilization of space in each area of a kitchen. It will be easy to apply these ideas to your individual situation.

 

Knitting-Do you want to learn to knit? Stitches from the Heart knit caps, booties, and little sweaters for newborns in need. All are welcome. Bring needles and yarn.

 

Pine Tree Hospice Volunteer Training-Hospice volunteers are urgently needed. To meet this challenge, the Pine Tree Hospice Education Committee will provide training via the ATM system in a 7-week course. Classes are available in Dexter. Call 564-4346 or e-mail director@pinetreehospice.org.

 

Senior Citizens' Lunch– Join your neighbors for lunch at the Tri-County Technical Center on Wednesdays at 11:30 am. Weekly cost will be approximately $4.00 per week. This food is prepared by TCTC students. Open to area residents, senior citizens or not!

 

The Eastern Maine Community College

The Penquis Higher Education Center in Dover-Foxcroft is now open!  There are more than 40 live classes offered from EMCC, as well as ITV classes. Classes include, but are not limited to: early childhood, computer, biology, accounting, anatomy & physiology, medical, electronics, law, math, business, sociology, psychology, and health.   Please call
