May 2007

The Dexter Regional High School Science Department held a Biology Open House Night on Tuesday, May 8th 2007 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The Senior advanced biology students presented the results of their semester 2 research projects.  The sophomore honors biology students presented projects on genetic diseases, and many other biology students presented various topics related to biology.  Presentations took place every 15 minutes beginning at 4:00pm.  For more information contact Alyson Saunders at 924-5536 ext. 237.

April 2007

Dexter Regional High School Key Club Update

      The Dexter Key Club attended the New England District Convention of Key Clubs on March 30, 31 and April 1st.  The Key Club traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts by Cyr bus with other Key Clubbers from Foxcroft Academy, Greenville, Penquis, Messalonski, and Old Town.  The Key Clubbers attended workshops, caucuses, and two general sessions with over 900 other Key Clubbers from around New England.

      The Dexter Key Club won three awards at convention. 2nd Place - Single Service Award for the club’s Dime Drive Fundraiser for March of Dimes – Dexter Key Club raised $2,053 for the Dime Drive.  3rd Place – Project Awake Award for the club’s work with Kiwanis. 

      The Key Club also took a $1,000 check as a donation to District Convention.  The donation was split between Camp Sunshine, Children of Peace International, and the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit in Boston.  The Dexter Key Club’s year concluded at convention.  During the 2006-2007 year the club conducted over 50 service and fundraising projects and raised over $9,400 for charity.

      Since the Key Club’s new year has begun, they have celebrated their success in the March of Dimes Drive with the All-Hit Video Dance they won, this was put on by Z 107.3 and Chuck Foster.  On April 7th, the Key Club had about 15 members help out with the Easter Hat Parade and Egg Hunt which is put on by the town.  On April 15th, 20 Key Clubbers took a bus to the University of Maine in Augusta to listen to a survivor of Auschwitz who spoke about the Holocaust; the Key Club also attended the Holocaust memorial ceremony on the same day.

     Dexter Regional High School hosted a GLOBAL WARMING AWARENESS week, April 9-13.  Students were invited to meet with volunteers and experts concerned about Global Climate Change during their 2nd and 4th block study halls Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Also, students were challenged every morning with a thought provoking question relating to climate change.  The week culminated with 4 classroom presentations by Sam Brown in Mrs. Saunders Biology classes and Mr. Whitney's History classes.

''Financial Aid Night'' to be held at Dexter Regional High School

 Dexter Regional High School will hold its annual "Financial Aid Night" on Tuesday, November 7th 2007, beginning at 6:00 pm.  The speaker will be from The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME). The topics covered will include information on filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as information about student loans, grants, work study and scholarship programs. All students that will be graduating from Dexter Regional High School, as well as their parents or guardians are encouraged to attend this very valuable and informational evening!

September 2006

The SAD #46 Board of Directors will be re-forming six sub-committees related to the construction project.  The sub-committees will be made up of professional staff, board members, consultants, and most importantly, representation from the general public.   Click here for more information.

The guest speaker Jayne Hitchcock will speak at 7pm in the DPS/DMS gym on internet crimes and what parents should know.

July 2006

The summer hours for the Guidance Office will begin during the week of June 19th. The office will be open full time until June 16th, and beginning the following week, will be open for two days during the following weeks. If you wish to reach the counselor Mrs. Hartel, or Mrs. Mountain/secretary, you may email either at Dhartel@SAD46.org, or smountain@SAD46.org. You may also call 924-5537 extension 241 for Mrs. Hartel, and 240 for Mrs. Mountain to leave a voice message, and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

Community Birthday Calendar: The PTO is excited to announce that the Community Birthday Calendar is back! Order forms are available in the primary school office. These calendars are a school year September 2006-August 2007 calendar. Calendars are $6.00, which includes up to 5 birthday and anniversary listings. We still need volunteers to help by taking orders in their neighborhood, please contact Darlene Ulrickson @ 924-7023 or ulrickson@verizon.net if you are willing to help.

The class of 1986 will hold their 20th class reunion on Saturday July 22 with an afternoon at Ann Jordan's camp and an evening at Giovanni's. Please contact Melissa Peakes-Stevens at mpeakes@SAD46.org for more information.

April/May 2006

Biology Open House Night!

Wednesday May 31st from 4 - 8 pm we will be having students doing oral presentations, power points, and videos that night for the public. Honors students are required to present their findings for a project they are doing on Terrestrial Arthropods. (Creepy Crawlies) And many other students will be doing make up/extra credit projects that night as well. Those projects will be about a variety of topics relating to biology. The public is welcome to attend and anyone wishing to help score projects is encouraged to contact Alyson Saunders. The oral presentations will run in approximately 10 min cycles throughout the evening. The video presentations will run repeatedly over the course of the evening. And power point presentations will be available for viewing continuously.

Congratulations to the DRHS Cheerleaders for attaining sixth place at the regional cheering competition in Bangor on January 28!  They will be competing in the State Cheering Competition on February 11 at the Augusta Civic Center. Good luck to you!!!

The Tri-County Technical Center Student Skills Showcase was held January 25, 2006 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Tri-County Technical Center.  Awards were held in the Dexter Regional High School Cafeteria at 7:30pm.

 

The first DMS Parent Night was Tuesday, January 17, at 6:30 PM in the Dexter Primary/Middle School gym. The topic of discussion for this event was Childhood Anxiety. This Parent Night was free and open to the public.

December 2005

The last day of school before the Holiday Break is December 23.  School will reopen on January 3, 2006.

SAD #46 Community Math Forum Wednesday, December 21, 2005 @ 6:00 PM in the Dexter Regional High School Cafeteria 

A Community Forum will be held to discuss the High School's math curriculum.  The public is invited to a discussion/evaluation of the math curriculum at Dexter Regional High School including the Interactive Math Program (IMP) and Applied Mathematics.  Small group breakout sessions will be held to include all parents, students, and community members in this discussion.

On December 6th, 2005 Husson College and Eastern Maine Community College will be at Dexter Regional High School to do actual admission interviews.  Students can meet with Husson College officers beginning at 8:15 AM and Eastern Maine Community College officers beginning at 10:15 AM.  Students will need to sign up outside of the Guidance Office for an appointment, and will need to have their completed application, fee waiver, transcript, SAT scores, and letters of recommendations with them during the interview.  During the interview, students will actually learn if they have been accepted.   Also, on December 8th, The University of Maine at Orono will be here conducting interviews.  Again, the students will need to have completed applications, fee waiver, transcript, SAT scores and letters of recommendation with them also.  Students will need to sign up outside of Guidance for an appointment, which will begin at 8:30 AM.

Garland Elementary and Dexter Primary dates to mark on your calendar:

  • Parent/Teacher conferences for Garland ES and Dexter Primary  are Tuesday November 15th and Thursday November 17th respectively.

There will be a Hunter's Breakfast at Exeter School to earn money for enrichment programs, November 5th from 4:30 to 9:00 A.M.

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) will be held on November 2, 2005 at DRHS for all tenth and eleventh graders.  The cost is $12.00 for juniors ( sophomore students are free - contact Mrs. Hartel at 924-5537 ext 241 if you need help paying) and will be held from 8:00am to 10:45am.  The deadline for registration is October 21, 2005.

School Bus Safety Week is held from Sunday, October 16 thru Saturday October 22.  We will be visiting all K-4 classrooms to show videos and talk to students about school bus safety.

Also, Friday October 9 is National School Bus Driver Recognition Day.  Let our bus drivers know how much we appreciate them!

The Abbott Hill Ramblers will be in concert Thursday, October 6 in the Dexter Middle School Gym beginning at 7:00pm.  This concert is to celebrate the release of their second recording, "Climbing Higher".  Admission is free, door prizes will be given out, and refreshments will be available.  Hope to see you there!!

Rick Charette will be in concert on October 21 at DRHS at 7 pm. Tickets are $6 and can be bought at Dexter Primary School, Kaufman Motors, and Deja Vu Hair Salon.
